چکیده

Simulation of a dynamic and continuous phenomenon (field) is a difficult task for GISs as their data structures are 2D and static and are not well-adapted to manage neither the dynamic behavior of the phenomenon nor its geometrical and topological information. In this paper we present the Voronoi diagram as an alternative data structure that, through its useful geometrical and topological properties, provides an adequate discretization of a field and can represent its temporal changes by providing numerical integration methods on either dynamic or kinetic mesh.

Geosimulation of Geographic Dynamics Based on Voronoi Diagram

Geographic space is typically conceptualized either as discrete objects or as continuous fields. Considerable efforts have been carried out for the representation and management of the spatial data, based on the object view of space. However, field-based data models are less developed in GIS, especially when it comes to the modeling and representation of their spatial dynamics and behaviors. Th...

Interactive Analysis Using Voronoi Diagrams: Algorithms to Support Dynamic Update from a Generic Triangle-based Data Structure

This paper describes a series of dynamic update methods that can be applied to a family of Voronoi diagram types, so that changes can be updated incrementally, without the usual recourse to complete reconstruction of their underlying data structure. More efficient incremental update methods are described for the ordinary Voronoi diagram, the farthest-point Voronoi diagram, the order-k Voronoi d...

Fully Dynamic and Kinematic Voronoi Diagrams in GIS

This paper gives a survey of static, dynamic, and kinematic Voronoi diagrams as a basic tool for Geographic Information Systems (GIS). We show how the Voronoi diagram with its dual, the Delaunay multigraph, can be used to maintain the topology of the map objects of a GIS. The presented method allows the insertion, deletion, and translation of points and line segments in a Voronoi diagram of n g...

The Architecture of a Dynamic Distributed Gis

Current GIS development pays more attention to the ability of distribution based on the client-server architecture. In a batch mode distributed GIS, a file server functions passively. Information sharing and integrating are far from concurrent, nor is the database integrity controlled. The dynamic Voronoi data model, equipped with a dedicated spatial server, presents a bright future in overcomi...

AN OBJECT - BASED DYNAMIC SPATIAL MODEL , AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A USER - FRIENDLY DlGlTIZING SYSTEM

A possible set of requirements for a future GIS spatial data structure is that it should have no topological gaps in it at any time, that it should be locally updateable and hence permit real-time updating, editing and querying, that full object insertion and deletion should be supported (i.e. dynamism), that a primitive object on the map should equal one object in the data structure, that obje...
